"Where I come from, where modesty is a sin, Flintoff 's book would
be called 'The Indispensable Guide to Giving an Unforgettable
Speech'."Jay Heinrichs, New York Times bestselling author Most of
us dread public speaking. But at some point we find ourselves
forced to make a speech. And we worry: Will my jokes fall flat?
What if I freeze? Is it okay to read notes? What if people walk
out? This book won't magically transform you into a fast-talking
corporate hotshot. But it will show you how to think about public
speaking in a new way, and with a spot of luck, you will achieve
adequacy. Or better! Drawing on ancient principles of rhetoric and
his own entertaining successes and failures on the speech-giving
circuit, John-Paul Flintoff provides simple but effective
techniques to help you to speak with confidence to any crowd,
whether it's a work presentation or a best friend's wedding. Humble
but motivating, this is a guide to finding your voice, even if it's
a bit croaky at first, and a reassuring affirmation that we all
have something to say.

The whole of life can be found in the psalms. It can also be found
in our cities. Psalms for the City is a beautifully illustrated
book of poetry that offers comfort, inspiration and encouragement
for the heart and soul, as John-Paul Flintoff puts into vibrant,
captivating and sometimes heart-wrenching words the pockets of
peace he has found in the midst of the non-stop noise and colourful
chaos of the city. Inspired by the psalms - some of the oldest and
most soul-stirring poetry in the world - Flintoff's fluid style and
technical skills take us on a private tour of our most-loved urban
landscapes and reveal the spiritual nourishment in some of its most
famous sights. In countless churches and sacred spaces, he shows us
locations to lament; he teaches us to discover joy in crowded
marketplaces; and shares how he found hope searching the horizon
atop Hampstead Heath. With his own hand-drawn illustrations to
accompany the poems, Psalms for the City is a book that poetry
lovers will treasure and is perfect for fans of Charlie Mackesy.
Presented in a beautiful hardback format, it will also make a
wonderful gift for friends and family, and for those who love the
diversity of city life. Open and honest, these are modern day
psalms that chart John-Paul's discovery that the extraordinary
places welcomed the ordinary, and that when we're looking closely,
the ordinary places can become extraordinary. Psalms for the City
is an invitation to take your imagination on a pilgrimage across
the city, experiencing the full depths of what it means to be human
today.

A pioneering critic, educator, and poet, I. A. Richards (1893-1979)
helped the English-speaking world decide not only what to read but
how to read it. Acknowledged "father" of New Criticism, he produced
the most systematic body of critical writing in the English
language since Coleridge. His method of close reading dominated the
English-speaking classroom for half a century. John Paul Russo
draws on close personal acquaintance with Richards as well as on
unpublished materials, correspondence, and interviews, to write the
first biography (originally published in 1989) of one of last
century's most influential and many-sided men of letters.
Designing Peace asks, how might we collectively put our creative
forces together to envision a future we want to live in and take
action to create it now? This book is an intersectional snapshot of
the actions-culturally diverse and wide-ranging in scale-that are
currently in play around the world. Offering perspectives on peace
through essays, interviews, critical maps, project profiles, data
visualizations, and art, this book conveys the momentum that design
can gain in effecting a peace-filled future. From activists,
scholars, and architects to policymakers, graphic, game, and
landcape designers, Desiging Peace flips the conversation: peace is
not simply a passive state signifying the absence of war, it is a
dynamic concept that requires effort, expertise, and
multi-dimensional solutions to address its complexity. Designers
engage with individuals, communities, and organizations to create a
more sustainable peace-from creative confrontations that challenge
existing structures, to designs that demand embracing justice and
truth in a search for reconciliation. This publication aims to
expand the discourse on what is possible if society were to design
for peace.

Documentary about the life of Pope John Paul II: poet, playwright,
actor, mystic - and head of the Roman Catholic Church. Shaped by
the horrors of World War II and the subsequent brutalities of the
Communist era in Poland, John Paul II is seen by millions as one of
the world's greatest defenders of religious freedom and human
rights. Filmed on location in Krakow and Rome, the film traces his
personal life and struggles.
The legendary hero of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood, is a figure
who has in equal measure attracted and baffled historians for
decades. With the first mention of him coming in Old English
ballads, it was long assumed that it was almost impossible that he
ever existed at all, and that he firmly belonged in the realm of
Errol Flynn, Kevin Costner, and even Mel Brooks movies. Only a few
historians have dared to venture that Robin of Sherwood was, in
fact, a living and breathing human being. Historian John Paul
Davis, while undertaking research on the Knights Templar, has
uncovered new evidence on the folk hero that suggests that his ties
to that order were much closer than previously supposed. Sticking
closely to historical sources as well as the ballads, Davis has
produced a new portrait of this intriguing figure with colorful and
unique insights into the era that he lived in, reckoned by Davis to
be at least 100 years closer to our own than previously supposed.
Lavishly illustrated throughout, "Robin Hood: The Unknown Templar"
will be of keen interest to anyone who has been even merely charmed
by his legend; potentially explosive reading for those with their
own theories of who Robin Hood really was.
This book presents the case that liberal constitutionalism in the
global South is a legacy of colonialism and is inappropriate as a
means of securing effective peace in regions that have been subject
to recurrent conflict. The work demonstrates the failure of liberal
constitutionalism in guaranteeing peace in the postcolonial global
South. It develops an alternative, more compelling
constitutionalism for peacebuilding in conflicted regions. This is
based on constitutionalism that recognises plurality as a major
feature in the global South. Drawing on events in Nigeria, it
develops a constitutional model, based on Cognitive Justice, which
could deliver peace by addressing historic, conceptual, legal,
institutional and structural issues that have created social
inequality and injustice. The study also incorporates insights from
the development of plurinational constitutions in South America.
The book will be an invaluable resource for researchers, academics
and policy-makers with an interest in constitutional legal theory,
peacebuilding and postcolonial studies
Entrepreneurs play a central role in economic growth and
development, but how they do so is the subject of considerable
debate. This book explains that process through an historical case
study of an automobile insurance entrepreneur, Samuel P. Black,
Jr., and Erie Insurance, the company he helped build. It also
recounts the largely untold history of American automobile
insurance. One of this study's central themes is the role of
innovation in the entrepreneurial process. The rise of Erie
Insurance from a four-person enterprise in Erie, Pennsylvania, in
1925 to the fourteenth largest property-casualty insurer today was
the result, in part, of Black's relentless push to innovate. His
continual efforts to cut costs, develop new products, satisfy
customers, increase sales, and improve operations, all contributed
greatly to the company's growth. A second theme is the automobile's
dramatic impact on modern America. Its takeover of mass
transportation provided the basis for the development of the
automobile insurance industry and created many of the opportunities
that Black and Erie Insurance capitalized on. These themes combine
in the history of Black and Erie Insurance to illuminate the
dynamic process by which the cultural, social, economic, and
technological environment creates opportunities that entrepreneurs
and entrepreneurial firms exploit, and how entrepreneurial actions
stimulate economic growth.

Cutting across three areas of interest within New Religious
Movements - insider perspectives, sociology of religion and the
helping professions - this book explores insiders' experience of
the Indian Guru-disciple Yogic tradition and is authored by a
former member of that tradition. Highlighting the rich spiritual
experience of devotees of Guru-disciple Yoga, and broadening the
understanding of Guru-disciple Yoga Practice, this book also adds
considerably to knowledge of conversion to New Religious Movements
and to issues of affiliation and disengagement. Exploring
participants' experience of attraction, affiliation and
disengagement, these themes highlight individuals' personal
experience of Guru-disciple Yoga Practice.
The Gospel of Matthew encourages and inspires its audience to
practice the true, authentic, and holistic worship required for
believers in Jesus to live in the kingdom of Heaven. In accordance
with all that Jesus taught and exemplified regarding authentic
worship, believers are invited to complement their worship of God
by worshipping and praying to Jesus, who, as God's beloved Son,
represents 'God with us'. They are also invited to complement their
ritual worship - especially the Baptism and Eucharist - instituted
for them by Jesus, with an ethical worship that extends to others,
especially to disciples, children, and 'the least ones' with whom
Jesus identifies himself, the mercy God desires for a holistic
worship. Indeed, a compassionate mercy toward all is the
distinctive and noteworthy hallmark that characterizes the theme of
worship in the kingdom of Heaven, according to the Gospel of
Matthew.
